Teide:
One of the most imposing and extraordinarly beautiful landscapes that can be contemplated is the National Park of Las Cañadas del Teide. As a base for this colossus, a huge crater forms a gigantic circle of almost vertical walls and fron its center Teide rises. This crater has a diametre of ten kilometres, a circumference of eighty and a surface oarea of 130 square kilometres. The highest peak of the valley is Guajara, named after a beautiful Guanche princess who was the daugter of Beneharo, the Mencey of Anaga. She was the beloved of the mythical Tinguaro and for his love she lost the reason . Is it her voice that istill rings in the symphony of stones? Is it that which is heard when the wind blows across the wide Ucanca valley? All is possible in this mysterious and beuatiful setting, in this impressive world.
The variety of volcanic rock that is contained in Las Cañadas del Teide is almost infinite. Native flora is represented by almost five hundred species, which toguether with scientifically interesting insect life, make up part of this unique region where beauty takes on overwhelming dimensions.
A few years back, climbing Teide was an aventure only in reach of the strongest and boldest. The 3718 metre ascent was made on mule back and whould take take three or four days. Nonetheless, upon their return, the intrepid climbers did note regret the effort and sacrifice that it had cost them. In exchange, they have been priviliged to see breathtaking views from the summit. Today, a modern cable-car climbs from the base of the volcano to 1400 metres from its summit allowing visitors to comfortably see one of the most spectacular panoramas imaginable.
